WRS joins Ferrari Hypersail in a groundbreaking ocean challenge

A strategic technical partnership to support the development of a cutting-edge prototype designed for open-sea navigation, with the goal of breaking international records.

Cattolica (RN), November 3, 2025 – From MotoGP circuits to the open ocean. WRS, the Italian brand renowned for the design and production of high-performance aerodynamic components for motorcycles, announces its role as Technical Partner of Ferrari Hypersail — the pioneering project through which the Prancing Horse takes on the new frontier of ocean sailing.

As part of the collaboration, WRS will contribute to the development of key components for the prototype, transferring its extensive know-how from the MotoGP world to the nautical sector. This partnership further consolidates the company’s commitment to performance and innovation, extending its engineering expertise to one of the most ambitious technological challenges of the coming years.

Led by Team Principal Giovanni Soldini and Team Leader Marco G. Ribigini, Ferrari Hypersail is an unprecedented research and development platform where open innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration create a direct link between motorsport and sailing. The prototype, a 100-foot “flying” monohull racing yacht, embodies the spirit of technological excellence and speed that defines the Ferrari name.
For WRS, joining the project represents the continuation of a journey that began in 2024 with the development of an innovative solution dedicated to competitive sailing.

Nicolas Zavoli, Ceo OF WRS stated: «The Ferrari Hypersail challenge is one of the most exciting projects of my life — the kind of venture that pushes you to go beyond your limits. I can’t wait to see it take to the water! I was already amazed seeing it in the simulator… I’m sure the years ahead with Ferrari Hypersail will be filled with emotion and achievement. Research and innovation have always been part of WRS’s DNA, driving our constant pursuit of new frontiers in speed and efficiency. Contributing to such a visionary project means combining our experience with the highest levels of technological excellence. This challenge perfectly reflects the WRS philosophy: turning passion for performance into historic milestones».

Marco G. Ribigini, Team Leader of Ferrari Hypersail, added: «Giovanni and his crew will cross the oceans in extreme conditions, at extraordinary speeds. Thanks to the windshields and fairings developed by WRS, they will enjoy optimal visibility at all times. WRS is the perfect partner for this project: they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and, drawing on their long-standing experience in high-speed environments — from MotoGP to the America’s Cup — immediately identified the best technical solutions to achieve maximum performance. We warmly welcome the entire WRS team: together, we will embark on this extraordinary adventure, ready to explore a new oceanic world».

Materials

PMMA wrs nautical manufacturing

PMMA

PMMA (Polymethylmethacrylate) is a transparent plastic material commonly known as plexiglass, acrylic or acrylic glass.

Main features

Transparency: PMMA is known for its high transparency, with a light transmittance of about 92%, higher than that of standard glass. This makes it ideal for applications where exceptional optical clarity is required.

Impact resistance: Although it is not as impact resistant as polycarbonate, PMMA is still stronger than glass and does not shatter into small dangerous pieces in case of breakage. This makes it a safe choice for applications such as windshields and windshields.

Lightness: PMMA is much lighter than glass, making it ideal for applications where weight reduction is important, such as in motorcycle and boat components.

Weather resistance: It has good weather resistance and UV radiation, which makes it suitable for outdoor use without significant deterioration over time.

Safety: In case of impact, the PMMA tends to break into large unsharp pieces, reducing the risk of injury compared to the glass.

Coloring

We have the possibility to use many color variants and degrees of transparency, from smoked to completely matte finish.

Lexan wrs nautical manufacturing

LEXAN

Lexan is a polycarbonate brand known for its shock resistance, transparency, lightness, flexibility and versatility.

Impact resistance: The Lexan is extremely durable, up to 250 times more resistant than glass, ideal for protections and industrial applications.

Transparency: It has good optical transparency, similar to glass, despite being much more robust, often used in protective glazing.

Lightness: Lighter than glass and steel, it offers advantages in terms of weight in structural applications.

Flexibility: The Lexan can be easily molded and folded without breaking, making it ideal for custom projects.

Heat resistance: It can withstand high temperatures without deforming, ensuring stability even in extreme environments.

From 2021 thanks to the new approvals received, the WRS is ready to develop in international markets.
